NFA Tax Repeal Provisions Clear Byrd Bath Hurdle Zion Patriot, June 30, 2025June 30, 2025 Big news: Gun Owners of America is reporting that the Senate Parliamentarian has allowed the revised provisions repealing the $200 NFA transfer and making taxes for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and AOWs to remain in the bill. What This Means:✅ The language survived the Byrd Bath.✅ It will proceed to the final Senate vote intact—unless Senators vote to amend it later.✅ The path to removing these taxes just got shorter. Important:Machine guns and destructive devices are still excluded from the repeal, keeping the partial NFA structure in place. But if this bill passes, it could set up the legal challenges that might ultimately bring down the rest of the NFA. What’s Next: The Senate will hold a final vote. If passed, the bill returns to the House for approval of the Senate revisions. From there, it goes to the President’s desk. Why It Matters:This is a major milestone for gun owners who have been working for years to dismantle the NFA’s tax-based restrictions on common firearms accessories. While it is not the full repeal of the registration requirements we originally hoped for, this is an important step in the right direction that can help bring down the NFA in the future. One thing to remember, because the tax was able to be removed via the reconciliation, a future senate controlled by Democrats can no only add it back, but they can raise the tax to the current 1934 equivalent to $200, which would be over $4,000. They could also seek to add ARs, AKs, Semi-auto pistols and rifles as well as Magazines. This is not a long term fix, but if we can get a case to the supreme court and have them overturn the NFA completely then the Dems would only be able to introduce new legislation which would require 60 votes (unless they nuke the filibuster like they tried in 2022). Stay Engaged:Now is the time to keep the pressure up on your Senators. The Byrd Bath may be over, but the fight isn’t. I’ll keep you updated as this moves toward the floor vote. 2A News Gun Control HPA & Short Act in HR1 Politics
